Explore the period rooms from the Tudor kitchen to the sumptuous Georgian saloon and the beautifully detailed Victorian wing. Gaze at the fine collection of art from Suffolk artists including the biggest collection of Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable paintings outside of London.

Christchurch Mansion is built on the site of the Holy Trinity Priory, which was founded in the 12th Century. The walls and floors bear the scars of over years of changing designs. The rooms are set in period fashions from the Tudors right through to the Victorians.

Step back in time as you walk through Christchurch Mansion. From musical instruments and toys to intricate glassware ceramics, the displays within Christchurch Mansion include something for everyone.

Several parts of the Mansion stand out for me. The most impressive room is probably the ornate entrance hall, with black and white marble floors and classical statues set in niches on the wall. You can get a wonderful view of the entrance hall from the first-floor gallery. Another highlight is a small room lined with superb early Jacobean painted panelling.

One of the most atmospheric rooms is the Lower Chamber, lined with wonderful linenfold panelling on either side of an extraordinarily ornate fireplace with a richly carved mantlepiece.

Christchurch Mansion is fascinating to explore; the period rooms are beautifully presented, and the house is filled with a wealth of historic art and furniture.
